Life Model

This was the first class with a life model today. It was a female, which I prefer to draw for the curves. I enjoyed it, though it took some time to get used to doing this again.

I am quite pleased with several of the drawings I produced.

Firstly we did several minute-drawings which were quite fun to do although I always find them the hardest. I really liked some of the simple shapes that I produced here. It's not often that I'm able to use very few lines to show the overall figure well. But on a couple, I think I achieved it.

We also made some continuous blind drawings to try and loosen up. Mine always come out pretty badly but it's quite fun to try and to laugh at what you produce when you've finished. There does tend to be specific observations made when this method is used; certain areas where you can see the line's shape is quite accurate. Unfortunately it's not often translated throughout the whole drawing, in my case.

We then had longer poses where we could concentrate more on the contours and detail of the lines. I was really happy that my proportions weren't too far off here. The broom was quite difficult though; straight lines can be quite difficult when trying to depict the object with weight and substance.

We had a longer pose that was around 15-20 minutes. Again, the stool was quite difficult and combining the straight structure with the curvy and organic lines of the model was a challenge. I measured out most of this piece and therefor the result is relatively accurate and looks quite well proportioned. It was nice to use the measuring method again after so long and becoming familiar with it once more. I'm quite happy with this for my first class.
